Our Purpose Matters
Save the Heritage Fleet is dedicated to advocating for the preservation of Melbourne's historic vessels. We aim to educate the public about the plight of the Alma Doepel, The Wattle, and Enterprize while gathering support for their continued existence in the Docklands.
These ships are one of the last connections with the working port in Victoria Harbour and to our maritime heritage.
If these ships leave, Melbourne will loose one of the only connections to its sea going history and huge community activator and connector in Docklands.
These ships give back to the community through developing traditional skills, working with young people and building bonds with volunteers and visitors alike.

Our Focus
Background
The Heritage Fleet needs a home…
The heritage fleet has proudly called Docklands home for over 15 years, with a promise of a permanent location in Melbourne. Unfortunately, despite these assurances, the Victorian government plans to hand over the current site to developers on January1, 2026, leaving fleet without a suitable new home. It’s crucial that we advocate for the preservation of this significant piece of our maritime history. Let’s come together to ensure the heritage fleet continues to be a cherished part of Docklands.

Future options
There are a number of future options for the Heritage Fleet, they are:
DOCKLANDS - There are a number of areas within Docklands that could house the heritage fleet temporarily until a suitable future home becomes available.. this includes the area of the former Central Pier and the area adjacent to the Ron Barrassi Oval adjacent to the Bolte Bridge.
WILLIAMSTOWN - The seaworks area at Williamstown is currently under construction and the pier will note be ready for ships until mid-late 2026. In addition the sheds require significant works to get them to a safe and habitable state.
